KVPY Syllabus, Exam Pattern

There is no prescribed KVPY Syllabus. However, students must read from their NCERT books. Students are tested for the syllabus up to class X/XII/1st year of BSc/BS/BStat/BMath/Integrated MSc/MS as applicable.

1. For SA Stream, the KVPY syllabus will include topics from CBSE 10th Syllabus and CBSE 12th Syllabus.

2. For SB Stream, the KVPY syllabus comprises topics from Class X, XI, XII, and 1st year of BSc Basic sciences

3. All the KVPY SX candidates need to read from NCERT books and IIT JEE (NEET for Biology) study materials since there is no topic or a unit-based prescribed syllabus.

KVPY Last Minute Tips 2021: Study Plan & Strategies To Score More Marks

(1) Do not touch on the new topic in the last few days:- Do not give much effort to finish new topics before the exam dates. In turn, it will affect your confidence level. Better revise continuously when you have already finished.

(2) Revise the topics already covered thoroughly:- Every single moment of these last few days before the exam matters. So, you should plan and execute a good revision strategy. Create a timetable – allocate time for every subject and spend more time on your weak subject/topics. Special attention should be given to revising the formulae, their derivations, equations, etc. These areas, if revised properly, will give you an edge over other candidates in the exam.

(3) Try to complete the multiple-choice questions in 3-5 minutes:- Don’t take too much time in solving multiple-choice questions or else you will get no time left for our descriptive answers. Please note that there will be 1/4th negative marking for both the parts of all three streams. In Part 1 of all three streams, 1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer and 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. In Part 2 of all three streams, 2 marks will be awarded for correct response and 0.5 will be deducted for every wrong answer.

(4) Use Flash Cards and Flow Charts for Revision:- For last-minute revision, it is neither possible nor practical to go through the whole chapters. So, make use of your notes, flowcharts, and flashcards to revise. It will save a lot of time. Also, this approach helps in memorizing everything better.

(5) Work On Your Weak Points:- At this point, you need to focus on your weak points – chapters and concepts where you are facing difficulty – especially the ones that are important for the exam. Improving on your weak areas is important but do not take too much stress upon yourself for that. You can easily work on them if you are focused.

(6) Attempt the KVPY mock tests and previous year papers:- Practice a full-length mock test every day. It will help you to build a habit of finishing the questions within a limited period.
