Project Started on : 01/03/2013

As per census report literacy rate in villages of Rajarhat block is good but sex ratio is below our national level. Most of the boys get drop out from school at the age of 13 to 14 years. They get involved in daily wage earnings and get addicted in alcohols and other mal practices. Girls get married when they are in their puberty stage. Sometimes parents arranged their marriage and sometime they run away. As a result early pregnancy is very common in this area. Girls have no motivation to get self-dependent. Gender based violence is very common in this area and women & girls accepted it as their luck. Lack of motivation is highly visible both in boys and girls. Literate people cannot read Bengali text of class VI standard properly. Being of neighbouring area of metropolitan city (Kolkata & Rajarhat New Town) cost of living is going higher day by day which becomes difficult for these families to bear. As a result mal practice and depression is coming up. It hampers their smooth life. Young groups are getting engaged in mal practices.
Towards Future is working for the child rights and women’s rights with a special focus on education for last ten years. We are working in these villages that are part of five districts of West Bengal – Rajarhat Block of North 24 Parganas, Bhangar – II Block of South 24 Parganas, Kalyani of Nadia, Rajnagar of Birbhum district, Darjeeling district. Through this project thousand children and more than five hundred women are benefited.
